Do I need a water chiller?
For 40-100W CO2 lasers (except for the Pronto series), you do not need a chiller; however, it is convenient. For occasional use, a 5-gallon recirculating bucket should not have a significant temperature increase that adversely affects the life of the laser tube, and you can use ice packs to regulate the temperature. After an hour of lasering, it becomes more a question of practicality than anything else. Replacing ice packs requires freezer space, and every time you open the lid of the 5-gallon bucket, you run the risk of introducing contaminants and dirt into your coolant.
A chiller is required for the Pronto series and machines over 100W. We recommend the CW-5200.
